Last month, 213 homes sold in the Central Okanagan at a value of $41.4 million, compared with 130 homes at a value of $23.7 million last year.
The median sales price was $172,287, with the highest-priced home selling for a little more than $1 million. Average house price was $194,330. For the same peiod last year, median house prices were $165,500 and average house prices were $184,564.
A total of 408 units were sold last month, compared with only 230 a year ago. For the first two months of 2002, total unit sales have increased 87.8% over last year's totals.
“Consumer confidence, low interest rates and a volatile stock market are fuelling the activity in real estate so far this year. I believe we will continue this trend into the second quarter,” said Okanagan Mainline Real Estate Board president Ann Petrone.
